Catherine started her career working in newspaper editorial and typography and is now a self-employed proof-reader. She used Farewill to write her Will and chose to include a gift to Crisis. Catherine explains what led her to support Crisis and why the issue of homelessness is important to her...
I’ve always made the effort to support a few favourite charities with monthly donations.
A few years ago, instead of birthday presents, a friend of mine asked for people to donate to Crisis at Christmas. I thought this was a great idea and I’ve supported them ever since.
The issue of homelessness hits me emotionally more than anything else now. I feel that having a home - somewhere to feel warm and safe and protected - is a basic human right.
A little while ago, I’d been thinking I ought to make a Will but I wasn’t sure where to start. I spoke to a friend who suggested that rather than approaching an anonymous solicitor, I could go through a charity. I contacted Crisis and they referred me to Farewill, which I used to make my Will. They offer a free Will writing service for Crisis supporters, and it was very straightforward.
I hope my gift will help more people because no one should have to worry about whether they have a safe place to sleep at night.
Having supported Crisis in the past with donations and sponsored walks, including a gift in my Will felt like my natural next step. The process was nice and simple, and it’s a good feeling knowing that my gift will continue to help people in the future.
