Introducing the Homelessness Covenant

Employers have a huge collective power to make positive changes in the lives of millions of people across the UK.   

The Homelessness Covenant, developed by Crisis and the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) and DLUHC (Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities), is a pledge by employers to prevent and end homelessness through inclusive and supportive employment practices. It is a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and sends a powerful message about valuing the dignity of everyone in your organisation.  

By signing up, you’ll gain access to valuable resources, best practice approaches, and networking opportunities. You will be part of a collective effort to tackle the root causes of homelessness and provide support to those affected.

Homelessness does not look ‘one way’. It can be hidden or visible, short or long term. Many of us in full or part-time employment may be at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. These risks are greater for those of us who face marginalisation, discrimination, or exclusion because of who we are.   

Right now, the cost of living crisis is driving more people in employment to the brink. Employers have a responsibility to help their employees navigate these challenging times.   

When your organisation commits to supporting employees who may be at risk of or experiencing homelessness, you are also committing to protecting people’s health and wellbeing. When your employees can thrive, your organisation – and our wider society – can thrive too.
